Nigeria, being the land of dreams for many has become the nation that every music icon all over the world dreams to visit. Moreover, succeeding musicians are looking forward to partnering musical icons in Nigeria as well.
This is the case with Imanse Omowunmi Adefosudo, who, though born in Lagos, has always shown a strong interest in music since she was 10. Imanse therefore grew up in a family atmosphere which nurtured her budding musical talents. Her Dad was an avid lover of music and legends such as Mariah Carey, King Sunny Ade, Whitney Houston and Michael Bolton. Her mom wrote scripts in Pidgin and English for Radio as well as performing in short plays.
After her high school education in Queens College where she became well-known for performing covers of popular songs with her classmates. Later, she moved to the United States where she spent another 10 years in furtherance of her academic career culminating in her graduation from the prestigious Howard University in Washington DC.
In 2004, while at Howard University, she joined the Voice of Praise choir of Temple of Praise, Beltsville, Maryland and quickly became one of the lead singers in the choir.
She had a boost for her career at the graduation ceremony held at Howard University. She went on to write all the songs for the hit Broadway play “No Limits” in 2010, thereafter had an impressive professional career including an internship with Morgan Stanley, a reputable Wall Street firm. Another stint to her career included also a full time finance and tax position with Tyco Electronics . Through all this time, Imanse planned to get back to music.
Having been curious about music, fascinated with musical arrangements and always dreamed of the day when she would be able to create music of her own, she moved back to Nigeria to pursue her passion for “Music”, her first love.
The up-and-coming artiste entered the studio with producer Ikon at the controls and in December 2014, “Gbona” was released. This smash hit single was followed by the release of “Today” “Ife ti de”, “Gbona Remix” featuring Falz and “Real Love’ featuring Jumar, showcasing Imanse’s immense talents as a singer /performer.
Probably, her goal will be to promote Afrobeat, R&B and Soul although her vocal versatility and dexterity allows her to fuse and straddle different genres across borders.
Over the years, her musical influences range from Asa, Beyoncé, Usher, Alicia Keys and Brandy. These artistes are unique in their own ways and Imanse draws inspiration from them for different reasons.
She is currently in high demand for concerts and her songs enjoy heavy rotation across the radio airwaves.
